You got your perfect wedding rings picked out, but how can you make them even more special? Why not get them engraved with your own personal message? Engraving is a great way to personalize your wedding rings, so they aren’t just wedding rings, their your wedding rings. Engravings are usually done on the inside of the ring, but can be done on the outside of the ring as well. At Diamond Gallery SD, we are proud to offer the most engraving options to our customers by having traditional diamond tipped engraving machines engravers. We also offer many fonts and symbols to choose from.
What is Traditional Engraving?
To answer this question, we need to describe what an engraving is first. In simple terms, when a ring is engraved, that means a message has been etched or carved on to the surface of the ring. This type of engraving removes a small amount of material from the ring, so there is an indentation where the letters are engraved and when run your fingers across the engraving you can feel it. The engraving is done with a machine that has a very sharp needle like tip. This tip of the tool is made with diamonds. Diamonds are the hardest substance on Earth and can scratch anything, including tungsten. This means we can do traditional engravings on any type of wedding ring, including tungsten wedding bands.
Many jewelers do not have the latest technology traditional engravers, which are diamond tipped, that is why they say tungsten rings cannot be engraved using traditional methods. We also have many more fonts to choose from for traditional engraving. Most other jewelers only have one or two fonts available for traditional engraving.
Will the Engraving Scratch off?
The durability of an engraving done on the outside of the ring depends on the durability of the metal itself. On softer metals, like gold, the ring will get scratched and the engraving will wear away over time, but on hard metals like tungsten, the engraving will not wear away as it is very difficult to scratch the ring. Engravings on the inside of the ring will not wear away no matter what metal you choose, as long as you wear the ring on your finger. For the engraving to wear away, that would mean your skin is tougher than the metal, which is not possible. Wearing a ring on a necklace could rub away an engraving on a gold ring over time.
Which Engraving Type is More Popular?
Traditional engraving tends to be more popular with customers who purchase rings made from traditional metals, such as platinum , palladium and gold. This is probably because people are used to seeing their parents’ wedding rings, which are made from traditional metals, with traditional engraving.
What’s the Cost for Engraving?
The engraving fee is $35.00. This includes up to 30 characters or symbols, including spaces. Engravings up to 30 characters are usually enough to for most people’s personal messages. We can accommodate engravings with more than 30 characters at $1.00 per character. Please contact us if you wish to go above 30 characters.
